How Much Does a Crypto Trading Bot Cost?

Quick answer: A crypto trading bot can cost anywhere from $0 to about $150 a month for ready-made tools. Free and exchange-built bots usually come with limits; monthly subscription platforms typically run from about $5 to $150 or more, depending on the tier; and pay-per-day bots charge a low daily rate for each bot you run. A custom-built bot is a different category, often costing $5,000 to $50,000 or more to develop, plus ongoing upkeep.

At AstraBit, bots start at 0.33 credits per day (1 credit = $1), which works out to about $10 a month, and you're not charged until your bot makes its first trade. You can see every plan on our pricing page.

One thing worth saying up front: the bot's price is only part of what you'll spend. Your exchange charges its own fees on every trade, and no bot, at any price, can guarantee a profit or keep you from losing money. Crypto is volatile, and you can lose some or all of what you trade with.

What You're Actually Paying For

When you pay for a trading bot, you're not paying for "better trades." You're paying for software that carries out the rules you set, around the clock, without you watching a chart. Most of the price difference between bots comes down to four things.

Running the bot

A bot needs to stay online and connected to your exchange 24/7. That means servers, uptime monitoring, and keeping up with exchange API changes. With an off-the-shelf bot, that's handled for you. With a custom bot, it's your job (and your bill).

AstraBit bots connect to your exchange through execution-only API keys, so your funds stay in your own exchange account. We never hold them.

Features

This is where pricing tiers usually split. The more control you want over entries, exits, and risk, the more a bot tends to cost. Common features include:

  • Take-profit levels: how many take-profit points you can set to close part of a position along the way.
  • DCA steps: how many times the bot can add to a position at set price levels, using DCA (dollar-cost averaging).
  • Stop types: a fixed or percentage stop loss, or a trailing stop loss that follows price as it moves.
  • Leverage: using borrowed funds to open a bigger position. Leverage increases your exposure in both directions, so losses grow just as fast as gains, and positions can be liquidated.
  • Hedging: holding offsetting positions to manage exposure. It can reduce some risk, but it doesn't remove it, and it adds trading costs.

You'll also see grid trading on a lot of bot platforms. A grid bot places a ladder of buy and sell orders across a price range. To be clear, AstraBit does not offer grid trading bots. We mention it because it's a common feature you'll see when comparing prices elsewhere, and it can affect what other platforms charge.

Strategy and signal access

Some bots just follow your settings. Others let you copy another trader or run signals from a strategy provider. Access to strategies and signals is often priced in, either as part of a higher tier or as a separate marketplace fee. Keep in mind that a strategy's past results don't tell you how it will do in the future.

Number of exchanges supported

Bots that work across many exchanges, both centralized (CEX) and decentralized (DEX), take more work to build and maintain. Some platforms charge more for each exchange you add. AstraBit bots can connect to any of our supported exchanges* on every plan.

*Supported exchanges vary by jurisdiction. Several exchanges available through AstraBit restrict or do not accept U.S. persons. Check your exchange's terms and verify it is available in your country before connecting.

Crypto Trading Bot Pricing Models

Bot pricing generally falls into five models. Here's how each one works and what to watch for.

Free bots

Free bots are a good way to try automation, but "free" usually means the cost moved somewhere else. Common limits include one bot at a time, a short list of exchanges, basic features only, paper trading only, or higher trading fees and spreads. Read what's included before you connect real money.

Monthly subscriptions

This is the most common model. You pay a flat monthly fee, usually tiered from about $5 to $150 or more, and higher tiers unlock more bots, exchanges, and features. The upside is a predictable bill. The downside is that you pay the same amount whether your bots are busy or sitting idle, and annual plans can lock you in for a full year to get a discount.

Pay-per-day or pay-per-use (AstraBit's model)

With pay-per-day pricing, each bot has a daily rate. At AstraBit, you load credits (1 credit = $1) and the daily rate is deducted from your balance. Billing for a bot starts only after its first trade, and you stop the charge by deleting the bot.

This gives you more control if you trade in stretches or want to test a setup for a couple of weeks. The tradeoff: you need to keep enough credits loaded, and because every bot has its own daily rate, costs add up if you run several bots at once.

Custom-built bots

If you're searching "custom trading bot cost," here's the honest range. Development firms commonly quote around $5,000 to $15,000 for a basic, single-strategy bot, $15,000 to $50,000 for multi-exchange or multi-strategy builds, and $50,000 to $150,000 or more for institutional-grade systems.

The build is only the start. Plan for hosting, monitoring, security reviews, and updates every time an exchange changes its API. Many developers estimate upkeep at about 15% to 25% of the original build cost each year. You're also on the hook for testing the strategy yourself.

Why many traders don't need one: unless your strategy truly can't be set up on an existing platform, an off-the-shelf bot usually covers the same building blocks (entries, exits, stops, DCA, leverage) for a small fraction of the cost. A custom build makes more sense for funds or teams with a unique strategy, the capital to justify it, and developers to maintain it.

Exchange-built bots

Several large exchanges offer built-in bots at no extra charge. You pay the exchange's normal trading fees, and that's it. The catch is that they run only on that exchange; you're limited to the bot types it offers, and moving to a different venue means starting over.

Hidden Costs to Factor In

Exchange trading fees

Every order a bot places can carry a maker or taker fee. More trades mean more fees, and features like multiple take-profit levels or DCA steps mean more orders. Here's a simple illustration: at a 0.1% fee, a $1,000 order costs $1. A bot placing 10 orders like that a day would pay about $10 a day, or roughly $300 a month, in exchange fees alone. For active bots, exchange fees can easily be bigger than the bot's own price.

Slippage

Slippage is the gap between the price you expected and the price you actually got. It tends to be worse in fast-moving or thinly traded markets and with market orders. It doesn't show up as a line item, but it's a real cost.

Paying while your bot sits idle

With most subscriptions, you pay the full monthly fee even if your bots barely trade. At AstraBit, a new bot isn't charged until its first trade. After that, the daily rate applies for each day the bot is active*, so if you're done with a bot, delete it to stop the charge.

*Please note that an active bot can also not take a trade. It is considered active after taking its first trade. The number of trades depends on the strategy you use with the bot.

Upgrades for more exchanges or features

On many platforms, adding exchanges, bots or advanced features means moving up a tier. Look at what you'll need in six months, not just today. With AstraBit, every plan connects to any supported exchange; higher plans add features like leverage, trailing stops, and hedging.

These costs come from your exchange, not from AstraBit. The exchange you trade on sets and charges trading fees, funding rates, and slippage. AstraBit doesn't set or control them, and they apply whether you trade with a bot, by hand, or with any other tool. Always check your exchange's current fee schedule. For transparency: if you open your exchange account through an AstraBit affiliate link on an eligible exchange, the exchange shares part of its trading commission with AstraBit. That's what funds our Freemium credits (more on that below). The exchange still sets the fee.

How Much Do Crypto Trading Bots Cost per Month?

For a ready-made crypto trading bot, expect to pay roughly $0 to $150 a month in platform fees, depending on the model and tier. Exchange fees, funding, and slippage come on top of that. With AstraBit's daily rates, one bot runs about $10, $20, or $40 for a 30-day month, depending on the plan.

Here's what that can look like for different kinds of traders. These are cost examples only, not recommendations or proof of results.

Trader typeExample setupDaily bot costAbout per 30 days
Casual1 Basic bot0.33 credits$9.90
Active2 Standard bots1.32 credits$39.60
Advanced1 Advanced bot + 2 Standard bots2.65 credits$79.50

*Bot fees only. Exchange trading fees, funding rates, and slippage are separate and charged by your exchange. Standard and Advanced plans include access to leverage and hedging features. Leverage increases exposure to gains and losses and can result in liquidation. Only use leverage if you understand how it works.

AstraBit Pricing Explained

AstraBit uses daily rates instead of a monthly subscription. Each bot has its own rate based on the plan you choose.

PlanDaily rateAbout per monthWhat it adds

NexusIn developmentIn developmentEverything in Advanced, plus unlimited trade triggers, a central command bot for all your others, and a Master Trader bot - in development.

Prices are paid in AstraBit credits. 1 credit = $1. Prices may vary based on discounts.

How credits work

  • Load credits: you add credits to your account, and each bot's daily rate is deducted from your balance.
  • Charged after the first trade: creating a bot is free. Billing starts only once that bot makes its first trade.
  • Cancel by deleting the bot: Delete a bot and its daily rate stops. If you've enabled Auto Top-Off (which automatically reloads your balance when it drops below $5), turn that off separately in Settings › Billing. Credits are non-refundable once loaded.

The Freemium loyalty program

Through our Freemium program, your bot costs may be partly or fully offset by credits earned from trading activity on eligible exchanges. The amount varies and isn't a fixed rebate. You can read the full details in our Freemium loyalty program guide, and we cover the basics in the next section.

Can You Use a Crypto Trading Bot for Free?

Yes, in some cases. Exchange-built bots and free tiers on some platforms don't charge for the bot itself, though you'll still pay trading fees and work within their limits.

With AstraBit, creating an account and setting up a bot are always free, and a bot's daily rate only starts after its first trade. Beyond that, our Freemium loyalty program can cover some or all of your daily rate. Here's how it works:

  • You open an account at an eligible exchange through an AstraBit affiliate link, connect it to AstraBit, and trade through AstraBit.
  • The exchange shares part of its trading commission with AstraBit, and we convert a portion of that into credits in your account automatically.
  • If your earned credits meet or exceed a bot's daily rate, that bot's cost is covered for that day. If they don't, they reduce what you pay.
  • Earned credits have no cash value. They can't be withdrawn or transferred, and they can only be used on eligible AstraBit products. Program details and exchange rates can change.
A quick word of caution Freemium credits are tied to trading activity, so please don't trade more than you otherwise would just to earn them. More trades mean more exchange fees and more exposure to market risk, and the credits aren't designed to cover either.

How to Choose the Right Plan for You

Before you pick a plan, run through this quick checklist:

  • How many bots will you run? Each bot has its own daily rate, so two Standard bots cost about the same as one Advanced bot.
  • Which exchanges do you use? Every AstraBit plan connects to any supported exchange, so this mostly affects which exchange fees you'll pay.
  • How complex is your strategy? If you only need a couple of take-profit levels and a few DCA steps, Basic covers that. More levels and steps come with Standard and Advanced.
  • Do you need leverage or hedging? Leverage starts at Standard and hedging at Advanced. Both add risk and cost, and leverage can lead to liquidation [/academy/glossary-liquidation/]. Only use them if you understand how they work.
  • What's your total budget? Add up daily rate x number of bots x days, then add your expected exchange fees. Only trade with money you can afford to lose.

Paying for features you won't use won't help. For a full rundown of what each bot can do, see our crypto trading bots overview.

Getting Started

You can go from zero to your first bot in three steps:

  1. Create your free account. No charge to sign up.
  2. Connect your exchange. Use execution-only API keys, so your funds stay in your exchange account.
  3. Launch your first bot. Pick a plan, set your rules, and turn it on. Our step-by-step guide on how to create a crypto trading bot walks you through every setting.

Remember, the daily rate doesn't start until your bot makes its first trade.

Crypto Trading Bot Cost FAQ

Is a crypto trading bot worth the cost?

It depends on what you need it to do. A bot follows your rules consistently, around the clock, which can save time and help you apply your strategy without reacting to every market move. It won't turn a weak strategy into a good one, and it can lose money just as fast as it makes it. Compare the total cost (bot fees plus exchange fees) against how much you're trading, and only trade with money you can afford to lose.

Are there trading bots that don't charge monthly?

Yes. Pay-per-day bots like AstraBit charge a daily rate per bot instead of a monthly subscription. Exchange-built bots and some free tiers don't charge for the bot at all, and a few tools sell a one-time license. In every case, your exchange still charges its normal trading fees.

Do I pay if my bot doesn't trade?

With AstraBit, you aren't charged for a new bot until it makes its first trade. After that, the daily rate applies for each day the bot is running, so delete the bot when you're done with it to stop charges. Most subscription platforms charge the full monthly fee whether or not your bots trade.

How much does a custom crypto trading bot cost?

Custom bots commonly cost about $5,000 to $15,000 for a basic single-strategy build, $15,000 to $50,000 for multi-exchange or multi-strategy builds, and $50,000 to $150,000 or more for institutional-grade systems. Budget roughly 15% to 25% of the build cost each year for maintenance, plus hosting.

Are exchange trading bots free?

Usually there's no separate fee for the bot, but you pay the exchange's normal trading fees, and the bot only works on that one exchange. If you trade on more than one exchange, a third-party bot that connects to several of them may be simpler to manage.

A portion of those commissions may be applied to your account as Freemium credits. This is a conflict of interest: AstraBit benefits when you trade more on participating exchanges. The exchange sets and charges its own trading fees regardless of this arrangement. Trading with leverage means you are using borrowed funds to open a larger position than your capital alone would allow. Leverage amplifies both gains and losses. You can lose more than your initial deposit, and leveraged positions can be liquidated if the market moves against you. Futures trading involves additional risks, including funding rates that change with market conditions. Freemium credits have no cash value, cannot be withdrawn or transferred, and may only be applied to eligible AstraBit products.
